International Conference on Electronic Signature and PKI Global Trends, Experience and Expectations

4th European Forum on Electronic Signature 2004

Honorary auspices - Prof. Michał Kleiber, Ministry of Science and Informatization The 4th European Forum on Electronic Signature was held under the honorary auspices of Prof. Michał Kleiber, Minister of Science and Informatization, at Miedzyzdroje on 2nd-4th June 2004. The Forum was organized by Unizeto Co. Ltd. and the Technical University of Szczecin. Partners of the conference were: IBM Polska, Novell Polska, Oracle Poland, nCipher and Gesiecke&Devrient GmbH. Media partners: Computerworld, Puls Biznesu and POLITYCY.

The conference was attended by about 140 participants from EU countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Poland) as well as Russia and Japan. Speakers and discussion panel members represented government and administration bodies and companies and institutions that play significant roles in the market of services connected with e-signature in the above mentioned countries.

The very interested speech given by Prof. Jos Dumotier from Belgium on EU plans to promote the e-signature and other presentations connected with legal aspects made by representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Labor drew an enthusiastic response from the audience. The session on technology covered such issues as the concept of a device for creating secure e-signatures in the scattered environment and a presentation of the attack on wireless networks made by Messrs. nCipher.

The discussion panels managed by Mr. Przemysław Gamdzyk, editor of 'Computerworld' and dr Jerzy Pejaś from the Polish Standardization Committee drew attention to the lack of standards that allow the mutual authorization of e-signatures made within certain EU countries. The necessity of the unification of legal solutions in member states and agreement between producers of systems on the interoperability were pointed out. The importance of a device for creating qualified secure e-signatures for the PKI applications was also discussed.

The speech given by Mr. Atsuo Miyazaki, head of the Asian PKI Forum, from Japan was a very interesting event. He presented Japan's and other Asian Countires' experience in the field of e-signature applications.

Traditionally the conference was divided to plenary sessions and workshops. The workshops provided the participants with practical applications of creating the qualified e-signature with the Suscriptor Q01, a secure device developed by Messrs. Unizeto.

Upon closing the conference Mr. Andrzej Bendig-Wielowieyski, Unizeto's Chairman of the Board, thanked all speakers and participants and invited them to the 5th European Forum on Electronic Signature to be held at Międzyzdroje on 1st-3rd June, 2005.
